Info

The Lake Constance Water Supply provides its 183 members with over 130 million cubic meters of drinking water annually. As such, it is the largest water supply association in Germany. Ottmarsheim is one of six operational sites that manage the pipeline network.

Some of the existing operational buildings were demolished, renovated, and expanded. New work and break areas with staff facilities were created. The space requirements for the central warehouse and the picking of pipes for network maintenance were optimized, and traffic areas—including conveyor systems and cranes—were expanded.

The renovation and expansion of the existing buildings, the garages, and the central warehouse were carried out using regional building materials in timber-element and timber-frame construction.

The steel structure of the existing operations building, which houses the workshop and warehouse, was preserved as “gray energy,” and the building envelope was adapted to meet energy efficiency requirements. All building services were upgraded with climate-neutral considerations in mind and equipped with geothermal heat pump technology. The PV system installed across all roofs serves not only for on-site consumption but also for feeding electricity into the public grid, with the goal of reducing CO₂ emissions for the overall energy balance of the Lake Constance water supply.

The water supply network is classified as “critical infrastructure” and is therefore subject to the regulations (KRITIS Regulation) of the Federal Ministry of the Interior, Building, and Home Affairs. As a result, enhanced physical and information technology security requirements had to be implemented for all facilities and installations.
