The landscape of the Lake Constance region is characterized by rolling hills dotted with extensive orchards. After the harvest, the fruit is stored in a cool room—the fruit cellar. This guiding principle forms the basis for the design of the LiveFresh production facility in Neuhausen ob Eck. LiveFresh specializes in cold-pressed juices, ginger shots, juice cleanses, and nutrient-rich ready-to-eat meals.
The goal was to develop a building that blends harmoniously into the landscape, minimizes energy consumption, and creates a welcoming, experiential space for both employees and visitors. Taking food safety requirements into account, the design for a production facility with refrigerated and frozen storage areas covering an area of approximately 8,000 m² was developed in collaboration with colleagues from the factory and logistics planning department.
The exterior walls facing the street are shaped into a hill using the excavated soil and generously landscaped, appearing as a green embankment when viewed from the road. The roof of the entire production facility features an accessible green roof and also incorporates solar panels above the refrigerated areas. A later construction phase will include an expansion above the production area: a showroom, employee offices, a fitness center, and a cafeteria—all constructed using timber—would complete the complex.
