After an intensive construction period, the Kronsberg Süd project by GWH Bauprojekte GmbH has been ready for occupancy since the beginning of this year. It comprises building plots A1.1 and A1.2 with a total of 235 residential units and a gross floor area of around 24,000 m².
Building site A1.1 marks the northern start of the new Kronsrode district, directly adjacent to Kattenbrook Park and close to the light rail system. The complex location - characterised by noise protection requirements and urban planning references - was answered with a meandering structure that forms U-shaped residential courtyards. These provide good lighting, orientation and places of retreat for the residents. One courtyard opens onto the neighbourhood street, the other to the west, creating sheltered open spaces despite the adjacent railway line. The building is staggered from 5 to 7 storeys, creating a clear address at the entrance to the neighbourhood.
The building is designed with a sophisticated clinker brick façade, complemented by glass bands and delicate railings, complemented by glass strips and delicate railings. The alternation between open and closed surfaces lends the building lightness and structural depth. The result is a powerful, identity-forming prelude to the neighbourhood.
The plans were designed by the architects Lorenzen Mayer Architekten and Turkali Architekten. RSE+ Architects Engineers was responsible for the realisation of work phases 5-8.
