Groundbreaking Ceremony for ‘Smart Warehouse’

At the beginning of January 2026, the Groundbreaking Ceremony for WORTMANN Schuhholding's new fully automated Smart Warehouse took place in Detmold. With an investment volume of around €20 million, the project is one of the company's largest single investments.

Right next to the existing high-bay pallet warehouse, a state-of-the-art carton warehouse is being built with around 100,000 storage spaces, 4 aisles with 40 storage levels each, 44 shuttle vehicles and a capacity of up to 2,200 cartons per hour. A PV system (256 kWp) will supply its own electricity, while inertisation will ensure optimum fire protection. Commissioning is planned for the first half of 2027. In future, shuttles and modern conveyor technology will make deliveries to retailers significantly faster, more flexible and more efficient.

The project is a further component of the 2008 master plan and increases the total capacity at the site to approximately 4 million pairs of shoes. Fabrik Logistik GmbH, part of RSE+, is responsible for the planning and implementation, contributing its comprehensive planning expertise and experience in complex logistics projects.
